Emergency Procedures
REPORT EMERGENCIES
Please report all emergencies to camp personnel immediately.
You can call the office at 610-377-9577 or on channel 2.0 of your
two way radio. If nobody can be reached... DIAL 911.
Our address is 845 Vaughn Acres Lane in Towamensing Township, Carbon
County. Cross road is Owl Creek Road.
EMERGENCY SIRENS
If you need assistance in an emergency, there are sirens ( )
located in each comfort station, in the pavilion, and on the clubhouse
patio. You can also blow a loud whistle.
HOSPITAL – Blue Mountain Health System
The closest hospital is Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital in Lehighton,
PA. See office for directions or
drive to the turnpike area, take 209-S towards Lehighton, 443-W
towards Wal-Mart, and look for the
signs. 10 miles.
HOSPITAL E.R. EXPRESS CARE (located at Gnadden Huetten Hospital)
Open seven days a week from 11AM to
9PM. Faster service for non-urgent,
medical emergencies such as sprains, strains, sore throats, colds
or flu, earaches, minor cuts, insect bites, and other minor emergencies.
The phone number for Express Care is 610-377-8230.
POLICE
The Pennsylvania State Police service our township. For
non-emergencies, call the office or dial the State Police Barracks
at 610-377-4270.
AMBULANCE
The Lehighton Ambulance Association serves our township.
They have basic and advanced life support crews. Dial 911
FIRE – In the event of a fire, dial
911 immediately -- every second counts.
Towamensing Township has a Volunteer Fire Company. Dial
911 and alert the office. Fire extinguishers can be found
at each comfort station and the clubhouse patio. Pressurized
water extinguishers can also be found along the camp roads.
Please make a mental note of their locations as you stroll through
camp.
LIGHTNING
The best place to be is in your vehicle. There is a weather
emergency radio in the camp office to alert us of any dangerous
weather situations.
AED (Automatic External Defibrillator)
An AED is used to help a heart attack victim. There is an
AED under the sink of the lower comfort station. Dial 911
first.
POWER OUTAGE
Most power outages at camp last only a few hours. Since
the camp water supply is an onsite well, the toilets and campsite
water will not flow. An alternative means of flushing a toilet
is by pouring a bucket of water into the bowl.
LAKE EMERGENCIES
There is no swimming allowed in the lake. In the event that
a water rescue is required, there are two emergency rope throws
(in orange vinyl bags) on each side of the dam. A life ring
is available at the pool.
GATHERING AREA
Plan a common area to meet your fellow campers in the event of
an emergency. We recommend the large field adjacent to our
camper storage area.
MEDICAL CONDITIONS
Medical conditions should be reported to the office so we can
add that information to our database. We will only disclose
this information to medical personnel in the event you cannot communicate
with them.
IDENTIFICATION/NOTIFICATION
You should always carry some form of identification with you at
all times. Your camp membership card will do because we can
look you up for emergency personnel. Also, program the one
person who should be called in the event of an emergency on your
cell phone: program them as "*ICE" which stands for "In
Case of Emergency". Police and EMT are aware of this
and will check.
EMERGENCY EXITS
The main camp road is the best way to exit the camp. There
are two additional exits through the petroleum pipeline (4x4 only)
and power line strips to the north of the property (to your left
as you exit camp). These exits lead to Forest Street.
WIRELESS PHONE SERVICE
All wireless phone providers have good signal throughout the camp
property with the exception of T-Mobile. Be aware of this
as you explore our property.
TWO WAY RADIOS (Family Radio Service)
Camp staff communicates on channel 2.0 on the popular two way
FRS radios available at any major retailer. This is a quick
way to communicate your emergency to us.
HELP WANTED
If you are a doctor, nurse, EMT, firefighter, or are certified
in CPR or other life saving techniques AND you want to be "on
call" when you are at The Woods Campground, please send us
an email with your expertise and cell number and then let us know
whenever you're camping with us. We'll keep a chart of who
we can contact in the event of an emergency until the emergency
response teams arrive at camp.
